Mattson Named Northeast-10 Women’s Field Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) has been named the Women's Field Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference after a successful collegiate debut for the Falcon indoor track team at Saturday's UMass-Boston Indoor Invitational.

Mattson set a school record in the 600 meters (1:39.86) and placed third among 18 in the event. She also moved into third on Bentley's all-time list in the long jump with her 16'8.75" placing her seventh among 45 competitors.

Mattson's 600 meter time bettered the school record of 1:43.02 that had been owned by Kate Viera since 2006.

During her high school career, Mattson was a Rhode Island state champion in the long jump and an All-State honoree eight times.

Two of Mattson's teammates were also recognized by the Northeast-10 for their performance during the opening weekend with the Weekly Honor Roll including senior Sean Nee (West Yarmouth/ Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) and sophomore Courtney Wilson (Morrisonville, N.Y./Beekmantown Central HS).

Nee captured the 1000 meters in a meet record, the best time recorded in the conference during the opening weekend.  Wilson finished first among 45 competitors in the long jump with her distance of 17'9" an NE-10 best for the weekend and the second best in school history. It improved on her best performance from a year ago by 16.5 inches.

Bentley's next meet is the Elm City Classic at Southern Connecticut State Thursday and Friday.
