Boston Globe South: Catching up with Melissa Nash

John Johnson, a sports correspondent for the Boston Globe South, recently caught up with former Bentley track and cross country standout Melissa Nash for this article that appeared online at www.bostonglobe.com and in the Aug. 30 edition of the Boston Globe South.

The 28-year-old Nash is stretching out her distances from 5K and 10K events and will attempt her first half-marathon this fall.

"The roads are more appealing to me now," said Nash, who has not finalized the location, or date, of her first full marathon. "It's time to push up the mileage and have some fun."

Nash earned All-New England honors three times within 15 months at Bentley, culminating with the New England Women's Outdoor Track Championships in 2009, when she finished fifth in a field of 28 in the 5,000 meters. The Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year that season, she captured NE-10 titles at four distances during her career: the 1,500, 5,000, and 10,000 meters, along with cross-country.
