Carlson Places 5th in Javelin at Northeast-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University freshman Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) earned second-team All-Conference honors by virtue of his second-place finish in the javelin during day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Southern Connecticut State.

Sihvonen's showing was the best of the day for the Falcons with his distance of 190'8" on his first throw of the competition coming within four inches of his personal best. He finished about 12 feet back of the winner, Southern Connecticut's Cy McIntosh. Also in the javelin, junior Joe Simonini (Revere, Mass./Revere HS) was sixth with his throw of 173'3" exceeding on his PR by eight feet.

The highest finish for the Bentley women also came in the javelin with senior Jacqueline Carlson (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS) placing fifth with a 111'8" throw.

Matching that fifth-place showing was sophomore Eric Alatalo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington HS) in the 10,000 meters. He finished in 32:17.83, shattering his previous best of 34:01.27 by more than 100 seconds.

Sophomore Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) bettered his PR in the 1500 meters while finishing eighth among 37 competitors with a time of 3:56.36. That pushed him to seventh on Bentley's all-time list in the event.

Just missing a top-eight finish was senior Anthony Charter (Hubbardstown, Mass./Quabbin Reg. HS), who placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 21'10".

Bentley picked up points in both 4x800 relays with the men placing fifth in 7:42.40 and the women seventh in 10:07.61. The quartet for the men represented all classes with sophomore Tim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) followed by senior Christian Connolly (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional HS), freshman Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) and junior Anthony Lacey (Ogdensburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII). For the women, it was also one for each class with senior Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlingtion HS), junior Dusty Sacco (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes HS), sophomore Mary Leach (Peabody/Peabody Veterans HS) and freshman Caroline Conrad (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS).

In the team standings, the Bentley men finished day one fifth among ten teams with 20 points and the women were ninth of 11 with six.
