Bentley Track Set for Northeast-10 Championships Friday and Saturday

WALTHAM, Mass.  – Sixteen members of the Bentley University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are seeded in the top eight in at least one event for this weekend's Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which will be contested at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium Friday and Saturday.

Friday's competition will get underway with the decathlon at 10:30 am and the first single event, the men's hammer, at 2 pm. On Saturday, action will resume with the men's discus and the second day of the decathlon at 10 am.

Among the student-athletes who'll be competing for Bentley are junior Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) and senior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallingford, Conn./ Lyman Hall HS), who are seeded third in the men's 200 meters and women's discus, respectively. Uthman-Olokokun, the runner-up in the 100 a year ago, has a qualifying time of 22.04 seconds in the 200 and is also seeded fifth in the 100 (11.02). Batzinger's qualifying performance in the discus was 121'9".

Three Bentley women are listed fourth in their respective events, including senior Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS), an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier and school record-holder in the 10,000 meters. She'll be competing in the 5,000, an event in which she was second indoors in February and fifth in the 2013 outdoor championships.

Also fourth are sophomore Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield/Lynnfield HS) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (17:38.35) and junior Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) in the shot put (38'6.75").

Senior Leah Schiller (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) is fifth on the entry list in the 10,000 (42.29.83), as are juniors Chris Ricci (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) in the javelin (177'3") and Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) in the 400 (49.84).

Junior Conor Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) ranks sixth in the 1500 (3:56.84), and classmate John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) matches that in the discus (137'9").

Freshman Matt Powell (Charlton/St. John's Prep) is one of six entries in the decathlon and is the only one in the field who has previously completed one this year (4,943 at UMass Apr. 15-16). In the heptathlon, Bentley will be represented by junior Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) and sophomore Olyvia Leahy (New Bedford/New Bedford HS).

This is the second straight weekend that Bentley will be competing on the W.B. Mason Track. Last Friday night, coach Kevin Curtin had his team in the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational.
