NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bentley University senior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallingford, Conn./ Lyman Hall) had an impressive day during the Corsair Women's Track and Field Classic at UMass-Dartmouth Saturday as she finished first in the discus throw and broke her own school record in the hammer.

Batzinger threw the discus 121 feet, 7 inches, just missing her own personal best set earlier this season. She captured the event by more than six inches over Emily Kohn of Eastern Connecticut State.

In addition, her distance of 109 feet, 9 inches in the hammer improved on the school record she set a week ago at Tufts University by 19 inches. Batzinger was 15th of 46 in the competition.

Also excelling in the field events were juniors Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) and Jackie Carlson (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS). Farrington was third of 51 in the shot put (36'6.75") and Carlson moved to number four on Bentley's all-time list in the javelin while placing sixth of 45 (110'5"). That bettered her personal best by nearly five feet.

Sophomore Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield/Lynnfield HS) and senior Taren Kershaw (Revere/ Revere HS) each achieved new PRs during the meet. Albanese did so in the 1500 meters while placing fifth of 48 in 5:05.62, a new best by more than 12 seconds. Kershaw finished 14th in a field of more than 70 in both the 100 and 200, with times of 13.34 and 27.57, respectively. The former was a PR by eight-hundredths of a second and the latter by 0.73 seconds.

Seniors Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) and Leah Schiller (Tipp City, Ohio/ Tippecanoe HS) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 10,000 meters. Nichols, already an NCAA provisional qualifier in the event, cruised to a 42:29.80 and Schiller crossed three-hundredths of a second later.

In the long jump, junior Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) was eighth in 14 feet, eight inches, and sophomore Chayna McDermott (Milton/Milton HS) was one place and a quarter-inch behind her.

The other individual top ten finished came from freshman Danielle Coskren (North Andover/ North Andover HS) with a ninth in the 800 (2:32.08).

As a team, Bentley was eighth of 22 with 34 points.

Next Saturday, Bentley will be in Durham, N.H. for the University of New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational.
