Varsell Advances to Finals at NCAA Division II Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Bentley University graduate student Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./ Lewis S. Mills HS) qualified for the finals of the mile after placing seventh in the prelims during the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track Friday afternoon.

The most decorated athlete in the history of the Bentley women's track program. Varsell will finish her career Saturday afternoon at 4:10 pm, seeking to gain All-America honors for the seventh time. Links to live video will be posted at www.bentleyfalcons.com.

Varsell, one of seven runners to break 4:59, finished in 4:58.66, which put her third in her heat. She started slow and made her push over the final half of the race, gradually moving up on the outside. In her heat, she trailed Breanna Hemming of Metro State (4:58.21) and Maura O'Brien of Adams State (4:58.47).

Emily Owen of Hillsdale had the top qualifying time, 4:56.89, and the next six were separated by a total of 0.85 seconds.
