BOSTON, Mass. – Bentley University grad student and All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) is now a six-time Northeast-10 Conference champion after running to victory in the mile during the 13th annual NE-10 Championships Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.  Her night also included a second-place finish in the 1000 meters.

Varsell, already an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier in the event, ran the mile in 4:58.59 to finish 3.66 seconds in front of Stonehill's Elizabeth LaRegina. Also in the mile, sophomore Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield/Lynnfield HS) took eighth in 5:32.06.

Varsell bettered the existing meet record in the 1000, set a year ago by former Bentley standout Caitlin Fahey, but her personal best time of 2.56.64 left her 14-hundredths of a second back of Stonehill's Emily Anderson. Junior Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) also scored in the 1000 as she placed eighth in 3:12.19.

Senior Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) provisionally qualified for the NCAAs in the 5000 meters with her time of 17:38.35 putting her second in the championships and elevating her to second on Bentley's all-time list. She bettered the existing meet record by 9.6 seconds and improved on her existing PR by about 21 seconds.

Bentley received fifth-place finishes from sophomore Sarah Brennan (Quincy/Notre Dame Academy) in the 3000 (10:48.07) and junior Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) in the shot put (37'5.75").

Freshman Danielle Coskren (North Andover/North Andover HS) scored in two events as she took seventh in the 800, with her time of 2:29.47 a new personal best by 1.69 seconds, and led off the Falcons' 4x800 relay team that finished eighth in 10:37.17. That quartet also included sophomore Arianne Bourgault (Fitchburg/Fitchburg HS), freshman Katie Burke (Braintree/Braintree HS) and senior Leah Schiller (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS).

As a team, Bentley was eighth amongst ten teams with 39 points, with Stonehill College (173) capturing the team title by 30 points over Southern Connecticut State University.

This coming weekend, Bentley will be at Boston University for the New England Championships.
