PUEBLO, Colo. – For the fifth time in her amazing career, Bentley University senior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has earned All-America honors.

The latest award came Saturday evening when she placed seventh in the 1500 meters during the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderDome on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Varsell, who had the number one time during Thursday's preliminaries (a facility record 4:33.41), ran in the middle of the pack for most of the race and finished in 4:35.86. Melissa Agnew of the University of Mary finished first in 4:28.02 with a winning margin of 2.18 seconds over Lisa Ohberg of Cal. State Los Angeles.

"Amy ran a tough race tonight," said Bentley coach Kevin Curtin. "This was her first 1500 at the nationals, and she dealt with the rounds at this level pretty well.

"After missing cross country and indoors, Amy had a slow start to the outdoor season. As recently 12 days ago, we weren't sure she would qualify for the NCAAs, so All-America is a nice accomplishment."

Varsell's four previous All-America awards came in the 800 meters with finishes of fourth (indoors 2011 and outdoors 2011), third (indoors 2012) and fifth (outdoors 2012).

Varsell, a 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America, intends to return as a graduate student for the 2013 cross country and 2013-14 indoor seasons.

Bentley was one of three Northeast-10 teams to score in the nationals and tied for 54th place overall.
