SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley University seniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) finished 1-2 in the 1500 meters Friday during the opening day of the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at American International College, with both breaking the meet record set by Varsell a year ago.

Fahey, who ranks 10th on this year's NCAA Division II performance list in the 1500, crossed the finish line in 4:32.17, besting Varsell's winning time of a year ago by 1.8 seconds and shattering the Hoyt Track and Field Complex standard by about six second. Varsell followed in 4:32.98, with her time 4.57 seconds better than the third-place finisher, Emily Anderson of Stonehill.

The two senior standouts also helped Bentley smash an 11-year-old school record in the 4x800 relay by more than four seconds, combining with sophomore Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) and freshman Dusty Rose Sacco (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes HS) for a time of 9:22.96. That erased the existing mark of 9:27.23 from the record book and was good for third place in the championships.

In the 10,000 meters, sophomore Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS) finished fifth with a New England-qualifying time of 39:37.82, a performance that put her at number four on Bentley's all-time list. It was her first track competition since December 2011 and her first race since the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships last November.

In the discus, junior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) placed sixth, with her throw of 111 feet, three inches a personal best by 11 inches. Sophomore Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/ Newton North HS) missed scoring by only two feet as she placed ninth (105'3").

Bentley also received an eighth-place finish and a new PR from sophomore Jackie Carlson (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS) with a throw of 105 feet, six inches in the discus.

Bentley finished the first day of the meet with 32 points, good for fourth place behind Stonehill (52), UMass-Lowell (49) and American International (46).

The conference championships will conclude Saturday with field events starting at 10:30 am and running events at 12:30.
