Fahey, Varsell Finish 1-2 in 1500 at Stonehill; Froehlich Sets School Record in Hammer

EASTON, Mass. – Bentley University seniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) each improved on their NCAA provisional qualifying times while finishing 1-2 in the 1500 meters during Friday night's Stonehill Invitational in women's track and field action at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Fahey moved up one spot to 13th on the Division II performance list by finishing first in a personal best 4:30.38, just 0.21 seconds off the school record set by Varsell a year ago this weekend at Brown. Varsell followed her across the finish line, posting a 4:32.52 to move from 21st to 17th on the D-II performance list.

Sophomore Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) broke a 13-year-old school record in the hammer by more than three feet with a throw of 100 feet, 4 inches, placing eighth in the meet. She also was sixth in the discus with her distance of 112 feet, 2 inches elevating her to fourth on Bentley's all-time list.

Senior Keisha Johnson (Randolph/Randolph HS) achieved a pair of PRs while finishing second in the triple jump (36'2") and sixth in the long jump (17'4"). The performance in the former put her at number two in program history and her leap in the long jump ranks third on the all-time list.

Bentley's third second-place finish was achieved by freshman Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield/ Lynnfield HS) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her PR of 13:00.43 the fourth best performance in Falcon history.

 Third-place finishes were registered by junior Leah Schiller (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) in the 5,000 (19:46.84) and the 4x100 relay of senior Melissa Kimball (Weymouth/Weymouth HS), sophomore Melanie Lilly (Lawrence/Lawrence HS) and freshmen Olyvia Leahy (New Bedford/New Bedford HS) and Kendal Pratt (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS). Their clocking of 50.62 seconds ranked fifth on Bentley's all-time list.

Sophomore Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) was fourth in the shot (37'3.75" and freshman Sarah Brennan (Quincy/Notre Dame Academy) ran the 5,000 in a personal best 20:03.79 to also finish fourth.

Also scoring for Bentley in the meet were freshman Chayna McDermott (Milton/Milton HS) in the triple jump (7th, 31'4.5"), sophomore Jackie Carlson (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS) in the javelin (7th, 98'8"), junior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) in the discus (7th, 109'8") and Leahy in the 400 hurdles (8th, 1:16.95).

As a team, Bentley finished fourth among ten teams with 70 points. The University of Rhode Island had a meet-best 251.5, and both Stonehill (116.5) and Boston University (89.5) were also in front of the Falcons.

Bentley is back in action Sunday with the Brown Invitational.
