Varsell Returns to Action during Bentley's Outdoor Season-Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – After missing the cross country and indoor season due to injury, Bentley University senior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) competed for the Falcons Saturday for the first time since the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track Championships last May.

Running in the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational as the Falcons opened their outdoor season, Varsell was fourth of 42 in the 1500 meters, posting a time of 4:53.47.

Sophomore Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) had the next highest finish for the Falcons, finishing seventh of 39 in the shot with a best throw of 35 feet, 8.5 inches.

In the 800 meters, freshman Dusty Rose Sacco (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes HS) and sophomore Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) were 11th and 12th, respectively, with times of 2:32.61 and 2:32.75. Junior Aubrey Batzinger (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) was 11th of 28 in the discus with a distance of 101 feet, 11 inches.

Due to the cold temperatures, Bentley's sprinters and jumpers did not compete.

This coming weekend, Bentley will be represented in both the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
