Fahey Finishes 16th in Mile at NCAA Division II Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bentley University senior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy HS) led her heat in the mile for virtually all of the first six laps, but tailed off late to finish 16th of 17 overall in the preliminaries of the mile Friday evening at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the CrossPlex Complex.

Fahey, who had the second-best qualifying time entering the championships, finished with a time of 4:59.70. The cutoff to advance to Saturday's finals was 4:53.60, a time achieved by Grand Valley State's Monica Kinney, who ran second to Fahey much of the heat.

According to Bentley coach Kevin Curtin, "it's tough to lead a mile and she felt like it had to go fast." The quick pace proved to be too much in the end for the Falcon school record-holder, who'll close out her career this spring with the outdoor season.
