Kennedy & Fahey Post Victories for Bentley at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) and senior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) posted winning efforts for the Bentley University indoor track team during the Tufts Invitational Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Kennedy captured the 200 meters, with his time of 22.85 seconds putting him across the finish line 0.18 seconds before runner-up Ian Peuser of UMass-Lowell. He was also second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds in the finals after winning his heat and qualifying with a 7.21 in the prelims.

Fahey's win came in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:59.11. That bettered the 3:00.56 posted by runner-up Caitlin Malloy, competing for New Balance Boston, by 1.45 seconds.

Senior John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) was fourth in a field of 31 in the 3,000 meters, posting a time of 8:51.91. In the women's 800, sophomore Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) ran a 2:33.43 to finish seventh out of 27.

Other Falcons who finished in the top third of their events were sophomore Steven Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) and senior Derek Sit (Wellesley/Wellesley HS),both in the 200 meters. Maffiolini was 13th of 63 in the 200 (24.05) and also ran the 600 in 1:27.94 (15th of 31). Sit was 17th in the 200 with a 24.30, and also placed 25th of 60 in the 60 with a 7.54.

Bentley, with just a portion of its roster competing (four women, seven men), finished well back in the team standings. The men's team was eighth of ten with 24 points, and the women were eighth of 11 with 12 points.

Next Sunday, Bentley will compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University.
