Johnson Doubles in Return to Action

BOSTON, Mass. – Competing for the first time in 19 months, Bentley University senior Keisha Johnson (Randolph/Randolph HS) captured both the long jump and the triple jump as the Falcon women's indoor track team opened its season at the UMass-Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday.

Johnson improved on her personal best in the triple jump by 13 inches and in the process, moved to second on Bentley's all-time list in the event with a leap of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. She also finished first in a field of 24 in the long jump, clearing 16 feet, three inches. Her long jump performance was two inches better than the number two finisher, and her margin of victory in the triple jump was 14 inches.

Johnson, who last competed in the 2011 Northeast-10 Outdoor Championships, spent last year volunteering with City Year in Florida.

Senior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) had one of four fourth-place finishes for Bentley on the day. Competing in a field of 13 in the 3,000, she set a new indoor PR of 10:27.14, bettering her previous best by about 16 seconds. That effort also elevated her to sixth on Bentley's all-time list.

Other fourth-place finishes were posted by sophomore Vanessa Wegner (Westborough/ Westborough HS) in the 400 (1:02.57), sophomore Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS) in the 1000 (3:18.42) and senior Andrea Crowley (Bourne/Bourne HS) in the long jump, with her distance of 15 feet, 6.75 inches a new PR.

Wegner and Crowley also helped Bentley to a fourth in the 4x400 relay, combining with senior Melissa Kimball (Weymouth/Weymouth HS) and freshman Kendal Pratt (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS) for a time of 4:15.56, good for fifth out of 15.

Sophomore Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) improved on her PR in the shot as she finished sixth of 26 with a throw of 35 feet, 7.75 inches. Also placing sixth were junior Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) in the 5000 (18:53.37) and freshman Dusty Rose Sacco (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes HS) in the 1000 (3:30.70).

Bentley's next meet is the Reggie Poyau Meet at Brandeis University next Friday.
