Three members of the 2012-13 Bentley University track and field teams have been accorded All-Academic status by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). They are rising senior Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) and recent graduates Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Comn/Lewis S. Mills HS).

Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) and John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), a pair of recent Bentley University graduates who are both two-time Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® honorees, have been selected as the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award winners for women’s and men’s outdoor track, respectively.

Bentley University track standout Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has been selected to the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women’s Track and Cross Country first team, becoming only the second athlete in Bentley history to earn first-team Academic All-America recognition twice. Also receiving Academic All-America honors was teammate and classmate Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS), who was voted to the third team by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

For the fifth time in her amazing career, Bentley University senior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has earned All-America honors. The latest award came Saturday evening when she placed seventh in the 1500 meters during the 2013 NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderDome on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Bentley University senior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a four-time All-America in the 800, had the number one qualifying time in the 1500 meter prelims late Thursday afternoon during day 1 of the NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, setting a facility record in the process.

Three Bentley Runners Earn All-East Recognition

Three members of the Bentley University outdoor track and field teams have been selected for Division II All-East Region honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with all three earning the recognition in two events. They are seniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS), who were recognized in both the 800 and 1500 meters, and freshman Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS), in the 100 and 200 meters.

Mills HS) earned All-New England honors, the latest coming with a strong performance in the 2013 New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Stonehill College’s W.B. Mason Stadium.

The Falcons’ top finisher on the women’s side also came in the 10,000, with junior Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) ninth of 23 overall, and third among Division II runners. She finished in 39:39.16. Bentley’s only PR achieved Friday was posted by freshman Kendal Pratt (Topsfield/ Masconomet Reg. HS) in the 400 meters. She was seventh among Division II competitors and 22nd overall, but her time of 58.23 seconds vaulted her to number two on Bentley’s all-time list. It improved on her previous best by 1.28 seconds.

Mills HS) finished 1-2 in the 1500 meters Friday during the opening day of the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at American International College, with both breaking the meet record set by Varsell a year ago.
