Varsell, Fahey Earn Spots on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) and Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS), both rising seniors at Bentley University, have been selected for 2012 Division II Track and Field All-Academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Varsell, a four-time Division II All-America and a 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America®, is making her third appearance on the All-Academic team, having previously been recognized for both track and cross country in 2011.

Fahey earned the honor in track for the first time after gaining the distinction three times previously in cross country.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.

Varsell, the USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year, made return trips to the NCAAs in both seasons and posted finishes of fourth in the 800 indoors and fifth outdoors.  Fahey was a provisional qualifier indoors after running the mile in 4:58.63 during the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

Bentley was also accorded All-Academic status as a team after amassing a 3.35 GPA as a team. That was the best amongst the seven Northeast-10 teams who were recognized and in the top 30 nationally.
