Varsell Garners 8th NE-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – After earning her fourth career All-America award at this past weekend's NCAA Division II Women's Track and Field Championships, Bentley University junior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

It's the seventh time during her junior year and the eighth time in her career that the 2012 Northeast-10 and USTFCCA Division II Women's Athlete of the Year has received the weekly award from the conference office.

At the NCAA Championships, Varsell survived strong winds to finish fifth overall in the 800 meters after entering the final stretch in contention for first place. In the prelims, she won her heat in 2:09.95, the third-best qualifying time for the finals.

The fifth-place showing was the best posted by any woman representing an East Region institution.

Varsell, who was competing in her fifth national championship meet, previously finished third in the 800 at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships and fourth both indoors and outdoors in 2011.
