Varsell Breaks School Record in 1500 for 2nd Time in 10 Days

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  --  When Suzy Walsh broke the Bentley University record in the 1500 meters in 1993, it lasted for 19 years, until Falcon junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS)  bettered it April 20 during the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University.

The new standard didn't last close to19 years as Varsell broke it herself on Sunday during the Brown Springtime Open.

Competing in a field of 32, Varsell registered a winning time of 4:30.17 at Brown, improving on the mark she set at Princeton by 1.23 seconds.  That gave her a winning margin of 1.88 seconds over runner-up Emily Reese of Harvard.

Varsell's time put her at number 14 on this spring's NCAA Division II performance list.

Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy HS) won her heat and finished eighth of 34 overall in the 1500 meters, with her time of 2:15.61 a personal best by six-hundredths of a second.

Bentley will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships this coming weekend at Southern Connecticut State.
