Varsell Collects Another NE-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a very successful trip to Princeton, N.J. for the Larry Ellis Invitational, three-time Bentley University Division II All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./ Lewis S. Mills HS) has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

It's the third time in four weeks that Varsell has been recognized, as well as the sixth time during this academic year and the seventh time in her career.

Competing twice in the span of about 18 hours In the two-day meet, Varsell finished second in the open 1500 meters with a school record and NCAA provisional 4:31.40 and ran the second fastest outdoor 800 of her career, with her time of 2:11.58 putting her 20th of 60 in the Elite 800. Her 800 time was good for eighth on this spring's NCAA Division II performance list and her 1500 ranked 16th. It broke the school record, owned since 1993 by Bentley Hall of Famer Suzy Walsh, by close to three seconds.

Varsell's year has included finishing third in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the 800, capturing the 800 at the indoor New Englands and repeating as Northeast-10 indoor champ in the 800. She was the USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Athlete of the Year indoors and the recipient of the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for Women's Indoor Track.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Bentley sophomore sprinter Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./West Hartford HS). During the MIT Invitational, he was first of 32 in the 100 meters and third among 53 in the 200, with both times personal bests. His 11.08 in the 100 elevated him to third on Bentley's all-time list in the event and his 22.25 in the 200 placed him fifth in program history. Both were New England qualifying times.
