Strong Performance for Varsell at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Bentley University junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) posted the second fastest outdoor 800-meter time of her career while winning her heat Friday night in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.

Varsell's time of 2:11.58, the eighth best recorded by a Division II runner this season, put her across the finish time 0.38 seconds before the runner-up in her heat, Cornell's Jade Williams. Overall, she tied for 20th out of 60 in the meet, with all the athletes with a better time either from Division I institutions or track clubs.

Varsell's unofficial splits were 66.0 over the first 400 and 65.8 for the second.  The only time she ran a faster outdoor 800 was at last spring's NCAA Division II Championships when she was clocked in 2:11.07.

Varsell is expected to run again on Saturday in the 1500 at Princeton.
