Varsell Named NE-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – After winning the 800 meters at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational in convincing fashion, Bentley University junior and three-time Division II All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

It's the fifth time during the academic year that Varsell has received the honor, and the sixth time in her career.

Varsell posted a winning effort of 2:13.16 to capture the race by more than three seconds. The time was about a second-and-a-half of her outdoor season best this spring, but was still more than two seconds faster than any other NE-10 runner has posted yet this spring in the 800.

Varsell currently ranks ninth in the outdoor NCAA Division II performance list in the 800.

During the indoor season, she repeated as Northeast-10 800 champ, finished first in the event at the New England Championships and was third at the NCAA Championships.

This week's Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Bentley senior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa.), who won both the 200 and 400 during the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational.
