Fahey Runs to Victory in the 800 at Northeastern

DEDHAM, Mass. – Normally, Bentley University junior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) competes in the 1500 meters and her All-America classmate Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) runs the 800. They switched events Saturday during the opening meet of the outdoor season, the Northeastern Spring Open, and both experienced success on the Solomon Track.

Fahey was first to the finish line, in a field of 37, in the 800, completing the distance in 2:17.48, and Varsell established a new PR in the 1500 while placing second among 45 runners, behind only Erin McKenna of Boston College. Her time of 4:38.97 was good for third on Bentley's all-time list.

Also setting a new personal best was sophomore Delia Equitz (Sussex, Wisc./Arrowhead Union HS). Her time of 1:12.96 in the 400 hurdles elevated her to eighth on the Falcon all-time list and she placed fifth in the race.

Two freshmen cracked the top ten list in Bentley history in their outdoor collegiate debut with Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) throwing the discus 110 feet, four inches and Brynnan Farrington (Shirley/Ayer HS) recording a throw of 32 feet, 5.75 inches in the shot. Froehlich was seventh of 21 and Farrington ninth of 19.

Bentley will be in action this coming weekend at two different meets with a portion of the team competing in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and the remainder in the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
