– Four-time All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a rising senior at Bentley University, has been named to the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women’s Track and Cross Country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was announced Wednesday. Her classmate, John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), also earned Academic All-America recognition with selection to the men’s track and cross country third team.

For the fourth time in her career, Bentley University junior Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) has earned Division II All-America honors. The latest came Saturday night when the Falcon athletic and academic standout finished fifth in the 800 meters at the 2012 NCAA Division II Women’s Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.

After winning the 800 meters in the previous three Northeast-10 Conference Championships (2011 indoors and outdoors, 2012 indoors), Bentley junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) took it a step further Saturday, running to victory twice during the 2012 NE-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Connecticut State University. And in the process, she broke the meet record in both the 800 and 1500 meters.

The Bentley University men’s and women’s outdoor track teams will be at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn. Friday and Saturday for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Friday’s action gets underway at 3:30 pm, and Saturday’s first event is at 11 am. Eleven different Falcons enter the championships ranked in the top six of their respective events, with junior All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) at the top of the list of qualifiers. The three-time Northeast-10 champion is the top qualifier in both the 800 meters and the 1500 as she plans on competing in both on Saturday.
