Bentley Sweeps Past Saint Anselm 4-0 in First Round of NE10 Championships

Woburn, Mass. – Bentley University swept past Saint Anselm 4-0 in the first round of the Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championships on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons, seeded 8th in the tournament, advance on to the quarterfinals on Wednesday where they will meet the top seed Franklin Pierce.

Bentley won two of the three doubles matches, No. 1 and No. 3, to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons then closed it out singles by winning the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 matches.

In doubles, the team of Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) and Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) won the No. 1 match over Saint Anselm's Emily Jacy and Maikah Bulpitt, 6-4. In No. 3, Bentley's team of Libby Keefe (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic) and Grace Bennett (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett) defeated Josie Hulbert and Elizabeth Janiak, 6-1.

Those two wins gave Bentley the doubles point and a 1-0 lead to take into singles.

The No. 2 doubles match was contested between Bentley's Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) against the Hawks' Dominique Bolduc and Ana Kapothanasis, which they won 6-2.

The No. 2 singles match between Matuty and Kapothanasis was the first to finish, with Matuty the winner 6-1, 6-1 to give Bentley a 2-0 lead.

The next to finish was the No. 1 match between Romagnano and Jacy. Romagnano was a two sets winner, 6-1, 6-2 to make it a 3-0 lead for the Falcons.

Bentley then clinched the match 4-0 when Chin defeated Bolduc in No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-3 score.

The other singles matches in progress were No. 3 between LeSage and Bulpitt. Bulpitt won the first set 6-4 and LeSage the second set 6-1.

The No. 5 and No. 6 matches had just gotten going. In No. 5 it was Keefe leading Janiak 3-2 and in No. 6 Bennett and Hulbert were tied 2-2.
