Bentley Women’s Tennis Begins Florida Swing with Win over Shippensburg

Orlando, Fla. – The Bentley women's tennis team began its Florida trip with a 6-1 victory over Shippensburg at the USTA National Campus.

The Falcons swept doubles and won five of six in singles to take the match over the Raiders, who compete in the PSAC conference.

Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras), Alyssa Cook (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), who was making her Bentley debut, won in both singles and doubles.

Matuty and Romagnano combined for a 6-4 win in No. 1 doubles, while Cook and Miruna Constantin (Ploiesti, Romania) were 6-2 winners in No. 3. The No. 2 match saw Falcons Grace Bennett (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) claim a 6-1 victory.

Singles play was highlighted by Matuty dropping just one game in the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-1. Romagnano was a 7-5, 6-2 victor in No. 2.

Constantin swept the No. 6 match, 6-0, 6-0.

Bentley (4-9) continues its Florida spring break trip on Tuesday when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas in Lakeland, Fla.
