Saint Michael’s Edges Past Bentley, 4-3

Waltham, Mass. – Saint Michael's used its double point as the deciding margin in a 4-3 victory over the Bentley women's tennis team in a Northeast-10 matchup on Wednesday.

The Purple Knights won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to claim the point, which proved to be the difference after the teams split the six singles matches.

Bentley's point in doubles came from its No. 1 team of Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) and Katie Tynan (West Barnstable, Mass./Barnstable), who defeated Abby Ramsay and Caroline Sumner, 6-0. In the No. 2 match, Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mount Westonka) and Courtney Flynn went to a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-1) to Margaret de Pont and Melissa Wood.

The No. 3 match saw Saint Michael's Abby Edelmann (Bentley head coach Rick Edelmann's daughter) and Annie Serkes win 6-0.

In singles, the Falcons won the top three matches. Fabianski defeated Ramsay in the No. 1 match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. Welty got the better of de Pont in No. 2, 6-2, 6-2, and Tynan defeated Wood in No. 3 by the same 6-2, 6-2.

Saint Michael's though was able to win the other three matches to ensure a split and take the match overall.
