Women’s Tennis Claims 6-3 Victory over Cedarville

 

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Bentley women's tennis team won five of singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Cedarville University (Ohio) on Tuesday as part of the Falcons' spring break trip in Florida.

Rachel Hui (Hong Kong) and Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) each won two matches on the day. They first teamed for an 8-5 victory over Liana English and Halie Hardwick in No. 1 doubles, which was Bentley's only point from the doubles matches.

When the action shifted to singles however, Bentley dominated with five of six wins. Among those was Hui in the No. 1 match, who defeated English by a 6-2, 6-0 score. Welty defeated Rosie Thompson 6-1, 6-0 in the No 2 match for her second win of the day.

Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport), Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline) and Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) also won in singles for the Falcons. Brandow defeated Janelle English 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 match, Kamphaus dropped just one game to Olivia Ancil in the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-0, and Petruzziello got the better of Audra Kearney in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 7-2.

The win improved Bentley's record to 11-6 overall on the season, and 1-1 in Florida. They will play again on Thursday vs. the University of the Sciences.
