With the match tied 4-4, the match came down to Petruzziello and Le Moyne's Camila Humala in the No. 6 match. Humala had won the first set 6-2, but Petruzziello fought back to take the second set 6-3. The third set then went to tiebreak, which saw her outlast Humala and win the set and the match for the Falcons on the fifth match point.

Earlier, Bentley's team of Rachel Hui (Hong Kong) and Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) won their fourth consecutive match to begin the season in No. 2 doubles, by an 8-1 score. However, the Dolphins won the No. 1 and No. 3 matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles.

Before Petruzziello brought the match home for Bentley, the Falcons received singles wins from Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) in the No. 1 match, Hui in the No. 3 match and Welty in No. 4.
