Bentley Wins Opener Over Daemen College, 6-3

 

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's tennis team ran out 6-3 winners in its season opener over Daemen on Labor Day. Senior Rachel Hui (Hong Kong/St. Rose of Lima's) and freshman Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) each won two matches.

Hui and Welty first combined for the Falcons' only point out of the doubles matches. The pair was victorious in the No. 2 match, by an 8-1 score over Giovanna Paschoalin and MacKenzie Robbins.

Welty, playing in her first collegiate match, helped Bentley overcome its 2-1 deficit from doubles in the singles matches. Playing in the No. 4 match, she defeated Christina Stasiuk 6-2, 6-0. Hui's second point of the day came in No. 3 singles, as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gretchen Ringler.

Junior Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) battled to a victory in the No. 1 singles match over Lorissa Yuen, with Fabianski emerging a 6-3, 7-5 winner.

The Falcons also took the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches with wins from seniors Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven). Brandow dropped just one game in defeating Jessica Robins, 6-0, 6-1, and Petruzziello dropped just two games in dispatching Morgan Park by a 6-0, 6-2 score.

After a successful opening day match, the Falcons are right back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on Roger Williams at 4:00 pm.
