Bentley Edges New Haven 5-4

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Bentley Falcons won four of six singles matches and defeated the University of New Haven 5-4 Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's tennis.

The Chargers took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but Bentley got the better of play in singles to take home the win to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Junior Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass.) won the No. 2 singles match over Samantha Nigri 6-3, 6-0. Junior Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J.) took the No. 4 match over Alexia Petruzziello 6-1, 6-3. Senior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn.) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Sarah Burzin in the No. 5 match, and sophomore Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn.) dropped just two games in beating Christina Santos 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 match.

In doubles, Gianino and Hetyei combined to defeat Nigri and Petruzziello 8-4 in the No. 2 match.

Now winners of two straight, Bentley returns to the courts on Tuesday when they visit AIC.
