Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Franklin Pierce 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Buoyed by four double winners, the Bentley women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Northeast-10 rival Franklin Pierce Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming Day.

Bentley's Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y.), Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass.), Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn.) and Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J.) each won in singles and doubles.

Yamus won the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-2 over Kirby Melbourne. Gianino dropped just two games in dispatching Sonia Rodrigues 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Petrini was a 6-4, 6-4 victor over Leslie Rodgers in No. 3 singles, and Hetyei dropped just two games in beating Nicole Gilooly 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.

Senior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn.) dropped just one game and beat Maria Quagliano 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 match, and freshman Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass.) swept Christine Boulanger 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 match.

Yamus and Petrini teamed to win the No. 1 doubles match and Gianino and Hetyei combined to win the No. 2 match. Kayla Anghinetti (Seekonk, Mass.) and Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn.) blanked Quagliano and Boulanger 8-0 in the No.3 match.

Now 2-3 on the season, Bentley is back in action tomorrow at New Haven.
