Yamus & Gianino Win Two Matches, But Bentley Clipped by Saint Michael’s 5-4

HAVERHILL, Mass. – Sophomores Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) both won two matches, but the Bentley women's tennis team was clipped by Saint Michael's 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match at the indoor Cedardale Athletic Club.

Inclement weather forced the match indoors and singles play got underway first. The Falcons took two of the six matches, with Yamus winning the No. 1 match and Gianino the No. 2. Yamus defeated sophomore Erica Bundrick in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Gianino got the better of freshman Nicole Kellogg in three sets. After Kellogg took the first set 6-4, Gianino rallied in the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2.

With the Purple Knights holding a 4-2 lead after their success in singles, they needed to win just one doubles match to secure the victory. They got it from Bundrick and Kellogg in the No. 2 match by an 8-0 score. Yamus and Gianino combined to win the No. 1 match for Bentley, as they bested juniors Caroline Martin and Caroline Toutoungi 8-3. Bentley also won the No. 3 doubles match, as freshmen Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) defeated Kayla Dowd and Alexandra Sulkin 8-5.

The Falcons fall to 6-4 in the NE-10 with the defeat, while Saint Michael's improves to 8-3. Bentley has two matches left in the regular season, starting with tomorrow afternoon's match at Assumption. Start time is 3:00 pm.
