Women’s Tennis Scores 6-3 Victory over Simmons

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's tennis team won its second straight match Wednesday, defeating Simmons 6-3 in a non-conference match at the Bentley tennis courts. The Falcons improve their record to 7-5 on the season.

Simmons, now 13-3 on the year, won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. But Bentley took the No. 3 match behind the efforts of seniors Rachael Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelon) and Paulina Sotomayor (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Regan). They beat Caroline Khoury and Rachel Sweeney 8-6.

Bentley rallied in singles play, winning the No. 1 match, and the No. 3-No. 6 matches. Freshman Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) won the top match for the Falcons, rallying to beat Margaret Teague 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.

The other four singles matches were all won in straight sets, led by freshman Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) beating Meghan Cokely 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 match. Sophomore Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), freshman Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and sophomore Stephania Adondakis (Salt Lake City, Utah/Waterford School) all picked up wins as well.

The Falcons will go for their third straight win Thursday afternoon when they host Merrimack for a 3:30 pm match.
