Sophomores Impress as Bentley Women Open with 156-134 Win

NORTON, Mass. – The sophomore class, including Emily Sweet (Millis/Millis HS) and Rona Mejiritski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS), played a key role as the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team opened the season with a 156-134 win over Wheaton College Saturday afternoon at the Wheaton pool.

The victory was the 22nd straight for the Falcons, who were a perfect 11-0 in dual completion last season.

Sweet and Mejiritski were both double-winners for the Falcons. Sweet's winning efforts were 10:55.44 in the 1000 yard freestyle and 2:10.51 in the 200 backstroke. Mejiritski was first to the wall in the 200 butterfly (2:12.81) and the 500 free (5:23.06).

Lucy Slowe (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North HS), the 2018-19 Northeast-10 Women's Rookie of the Year, took first in the 200 free (1:56.73) and also helped the Falcons close out the meet with a winning performance in the 200 free relay (1:39.30).

Another double-winner for Bentley was freshman Kathryn Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS), who swam to victory in both the 100 free (54.13) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.86) in her collegiate debut.

Bentley trailed throughout the first half of the meet but took the lead for good when Sweet and senior Paige MacNeil (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) went 1-2 in the 200 back.

Next weekend, the Falcons will compete at Le Moyne on Saturday and Saint Rose on Sunday.
