Bentley Pulls Out Season-Opening 150-134 Victory over Wheaton for 11th Straight W

WALTHAM, Mass. – Domination in the 200 yard backstroke and the 100 butterfly, along with 22 unanswered points in the diving events, resulted in the Bentley University women's swimming team posting a 150-134 season-opening win over Wheaton College Friday night at the Dana Center pool.

The victory stretched the team's winning streak to 11 and avenged the team's only dual from last season.

Bentley went 1-2-3 in the 200 back with senior Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) earning the win in 2:12.73. Freshman Emily Sweet (Nashua, N.H./Nashua HS North) finished 0.12 seconds later and junior Paige MacNeil (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) was third in 2:13.31.

The Falcons also earned the maximum points in the 100 fly with freshman Rona Mejiritsky (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) capturing her second win of the night in 1:01.30. She previously took first in the 200 fly with a clocking of 2:12.69. Just as in the 200 back, MacNeil (second, 1:01.45) and Sweet (third, 102:13) completed the 1-2-3 showing.

Junior Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS) doubled in the diving with scores of 243.40 from the one-meter board and 219.20 from the three.

Bentley's other winning performance was turned in by MacNeil in the 100 back (1:01.45).

The win, coupled with a victory from the men's team, gave coach Mary Kay Samko 398 wins in her 23 seasons as Bentley's head coach. She'll make her first attempt at 400 next Saturday when the Falcons host Le Moyne College.
