Niemiec & Warren Collect Day 4 Gold at Northeast-10 Championships; Bentley Finishes 3rd

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University junior Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS), the Women's Swimmer of the Meet, collected her fourth gold medal of the weekend and classmate Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron School) also made a trip to the top of the platform as the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships concluded Sunday night at Southern Connecticut State's Hutchinson Natatorium.

Their efforts helped Bentley finish third among a dozen teams with a total of 602 points. The host Southern Owls edged Assumption College for the championship 861-851.

Niemiec swam to gold in the 200 yard breaststroke with her time of 2:21.71 breaking the school record of 2:21.76 owned by Amanda Le since 2013.  It marked the third straight year that she has been the conference champion in the event.

Niemiec competed in seven events during the four-day meet and finished with four golds, two silvers, a bronze and a half-dozen school records. She concluded the meet by helping Bentley take third in the 400 free relay, combining with senior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS) and sophomores Brooke Jameson (Bedford, Mass./Bedford HS) and Kate Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./ Dedham HS) for a clocking of 3:32.65.

Kaduboski and McGahie both captured silvers during Sunday night's action. Kaduboski's came in the 200 backstroke (203.85) and McGahie's in the 100 free (52.85).

Bentley's other finalist on Sunday was sophomore Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) with a seventh-place showing in the 1650 free (17:54.68).

During the championships, Bentley's women accumulated five gold medals, six silvers, six bronze and seven school records.
