Niemiec, Mancini & Kaduboski Notch Wins in Season-Opener for Bentley Women

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS), senior All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) and freshman Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) turned in winning efforts but the Bentley University women's swim team fell to WPI in its first dual meet of the season, 199-100, Wednesday night at WPI's Sports and Recreation Center.

Mancini, who missed last season due to injury, captured the three-meter diving with a score of 292.27 points after placing second in the one-meter with a 236.10. Senior Courtney Stone (Andover/ Andover HS) was third off both boards, registering scores of 231.97 on the one-meter and 235.87 at the higher level.

Niemiec led a 1-2-3 Bentley showing in the 200 yard individual medley, winning in 2:17.82. Freshman Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) was second to the wall (2:18.54) and Kaduboski took third in 2:18.68.

That same trio opened the meet by combining with freshman Brooke Jameson (Bedford/ Bedford HS) to finish second in the 200 medley relay (1:56.00). Niemiec and Viator also competed in the 500 free, finishing second (5:28.62) and third (5:31.17) respectively, and Niemiec was also third in the 200 free (2:03.12).

Kaduboski, whose sister Anne is a former Bentley All-America, earned her first collegiate win in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:02.18. Her evening also included a second in the 50 back (29.44) with Viator following in third (29.75).

Senior Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) was second in the 1000 free (11:31.82) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.51). Freshman Hannah Rauch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park HS) debuted with both a second (50 free, 26.72) and third (100 free, 57.68), and sophomore Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) was third in the 1000 free (11:59.10).

Bentley is also on the road Saturday, swimming at 1 pm at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.
