Wilde & McGahie Help Bentley Women Finish 4th in Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Led by senior diver Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) and sophomore Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS), the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team concluded the two-day Gompei Invitational at WPI in fourth place.

The Falcons totaled 1,287 points during the meet, finishing behind Assumption College (3,114), WPI (2,731) and Roger Williams University (2,202.5). A total of 13 teams participated in the annual event that finished on Sunday.

Wilde placed second in the one-meter diving on Sunday, totaling 401.40 points, after earning a third-place finish in the three-meter on Saturday with a 399.35.

McGahie's day included a third in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.91), a fourth in the 100 freestyle (54.78) and a seventh in the 200 free (1:59.55). She also helped Bentley finished fourth in the 400 free relay (3:39.84) and seventh in the 200 medley relay (1:54.54).

The 400 free also included freshman Jessica Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) and seniors Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) and Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS). Chen anchored the 200 medley relay after following freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./ Francis T. Maloney HS), McGahie and freshman Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) into the pool.

Warren posted a third in the 200 butterfly (2:12.87) and Niemiec was both fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:46.43) and seventh in the 50 breast (33.09). Edwards placed eighth in the 1650 free (18:50.80) and ninth in the 200 free (2:01.41), and the Falcons also received an 11th from junior Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 1650 (19:09.84).

Bentley will be off for a month before returning to action Jan. 7 at St. Michael's.
