Goodwin & D. Hellstern Help Bentley Win 3rd Straight, 111-85 over Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt.. – Junior Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Acad.) and senior Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) were both double-winners as the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team captured all 13 events for a 111-85 victory over Norwich University at the Goodyear Pool Saturday afternoon.

Goodwin claimed the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:54.80 and turned in a winning 2:27.77 in the 200 backstroke. Hellstern won the 5:38.56 in the 500 free and swam to victory in the 50 free in 26.22.

Hellstern also anchored Bentley's 200 free relay team that finished in 1:47.02. Also part of that quartet were her sister Nicole, junior Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies) and freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS).

Niemiec posted the team's best time in the 100 individual medley (1:03.20) and was also part of the 400 medley relay that won in 4:15.61. Also swimming in that relay were sophomore Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS), freshman Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) and senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS).

Other individual wins in the swimming events came from McGahie in the 200 free (2:03.01), Clauss in the 200 butterfly (1:06.31), Edwards in the 100 free (57.09) and sophomore Laura Schlenker (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.39).

Senior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) was first in both diving events, combining for a score of 380.70.

Bentley, 4-3 after posting its third win in four days, will close out the 2014 portion of the schedule Dec. 6-7 with the WPI Gompei Invitational.
