Le & Edwards Help Bentley to 5th Straight Win, 164-109 over Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Amanda Le (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) and junior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) each won two individual events and led off a winning relay team as Bentley University notched its fifth straight win, 164-109 at Plymouth State University, in women's college swimming action Sunday afternoon.

Bentley, which improved to 5-1 for the season, captured every event and finished 1-2 in all but two of the 16.

Le was first to the wall in both breaststroke events, recording times of 33.05 seconds in the 50 and 1:11.15 in the 100. That came after she swam the opening leg in the 200 yard medley relay, which finished in 2:00.42.

Edwards, in her first meet of the season after spending the fall studying abroad, posted winning times of 2:07.59 in the 200 freestyle and 5:41.75 in the 500 free. She also helped the Falcons prevail in the 200 free relay in 1:49.63.

The other double-winners for Bentley were freshman Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./ Tahanto Reg. HS) and sophomore All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS). McGahie finished first in the 50 free (25.91) and 100 individual medley (1:04.94) while Mancini swept the diving with scores of 228.40 (one meter) and 264.80 (three meter).

Mancini's effort in the three-meter broke the pool record of 249.30, set by Kate Sorenson of Wellesley College in 2007.

Bentley's winners also included the Hellstern sisters (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS). Danielle, a junior, prevailed in the 100 free (59.94) while Nicole, a freshman, took the 50 butterfly in 29.75.

The list of winners also included senior Caroline Lewis (Westfield, Mass./Westfield HS) in the 1000 free (11:48.06), freshman Laura Schlenker (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) in the 50 back (31.11) and sophomores Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn.Avon HS) and Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hawken School). Culkin swam the 100 fly in 1:04.41 and Pernsteiner registered a 1:04.84 in the 100 back.

Bentley will be back in action Wednesday when it hosts St. Michael's at the Dana Center pool (1:00 pm).
