Bentley Wins 6th Straight, Clinches Playoff Berth with 2-1 win over St. Michael’s in 2OT

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley women's soccer won its 6th straight game on Senior Day, as they defeated Saint Michael's 2-1 in double overtime to clinch a playoff berth. Sophomore Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) had both goals.

With the win, Bentley is now in 5th in the NE10 standings with a 7-5 record for 21 points with one match left. They are just one point behind Southern New Hampshire for a top-four spot and a home playoff game.

The regular season ends on Tuesday with Bentley at Saint Anselm and SNHU at AIC.

Bentley took the lead in just the 2nd minute on a goal by Goulet, assisted by Kelly Donlon (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney) and Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston). Guccione sent a cross in from the right wing that Donlon got a touch on, which allowed Goulet to fire home from about eight yards with a low shot.

Bentley led 1-0 at halftime, but finally saw its shutout streak come to an end in the second half when the Purple Knights scored off corner kick in the 66th minute to tie the score.

The shutout streak reached 531 minutes, almost six full games worth without allowing a goal.

The game stretched into overtime tied 1-1, until Goulet struck again with just 2:22 remaining to give Bentley the win.

After a Saint Michael's foul Bentley was awarded a free kick about 40 yards out. Junior Kegan Castles (Leominster, Mass./Nashoba) sent the kick into the box and Goulet sent a looping header to the far post for the goal and win.

Tuesday's game up at Saint Anselm will kick off at 3:00 pm.
