Guccione’s Goal Sees Bentley Defeat Pace 1-0

Waltham, Mass. – Junior Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) scored a late winner in the 86th minute to lift the Bentley women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Pace on a soggy Friday afternoon.

The win is a big one for Bentley over Pace, who came into the game T-3rd in the NE10 standings. The Falcons improve to 3-5 NE10 with the win and 4-6-1 overall, and the Setters drop to 5-4 NE10 and 9-4 overall.

Guccione's goal broke a scoreless tie with just under five minutes remaining on a tough afternoon for both teams, as the rain and wind made conditions difficult.

The goal came just moments after Guccione hit the crossbar with a shot from distance on the right wing and led to a Bentley throw-in.

Junior Megan Doubleday (Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) took the ball off the throw-in in the left corner, spun around her defender and sent a low cross into the box. Guccione ran on to the cross and chipped a shot over the Pace goalkeeper to give Bentley the lead with just under five minutes left.

Bentley then saw out the remaining time to secure the victory.

The team is now off for the next week and will return to the field on Saturday, October 19 at AIC.
