Two First Half Goals Help Southern Conn Top Bentley 2-0

New Haven, Conn. – Two goals for Southern Connecticut in the first half were enough to give the Owls a 2-0 victory over Bentley University in a NE10 matchup on Saturday.

The Owls received goals from sophomore Katie D'Amico in the 19th minute, off a rebound, and from junior Rossella Graniero in the 36th minute after a cross into the box from freshman Julia Alicea.

Bentley attempted to mount a comeback in the second half and they outshot Southern Conn 7-4 in shots on goal, but each one was denied by Owls keeper Allie Smith.

Both teams finished the game with 10 shots on goal each and Bentley had the edge in corner kicks 3-2. Sophomore Amanda Adriano (Fort Salonga, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led Bentley with three shots on goal, and junior Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and junior Chloe Gizzi (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) had two each.

Falcons keeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) made eight saves on the day.

Bentley (2-2-1, 1-1-0 NE10) will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they visit Adelphi.
