Westminster Tops Bentley 2-0 in First Ever Matchup

Waltham, Mass. – Westminster (Utah) scored a goal in each half in a 2-0 victory over hosts Bentley in the first ever meeting between the two programs in a non-conference match in Waltham on Saturday.

The Griffins, which compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and were coming off a win over Franklin Pierce on Thursday, improved to 3-0-1 on the season. The Falcons were beaten for the first time this season, and fell to 1-1-1.

Westminster's Brynnae Braun opened the scoring in the 15th minute, after she deflected in a shot from Aimee Kurfurst from eight yards out.

Bentley's Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) came up with two impressive saves in the second half to keep it a one goal game.

In the 64th minute, she made a lunging save to her left to deny an effort by Jayde Hansen. In the 71st minute, she made a diving save to her right and got finger tips on a close range shot by Alexa Maple to push the ball wide.

The Griffins though got their second goal just over a minute later when Sara Weixler headed in a ball off a corner kick from close range to make it a 2-0 game.

Bentley now has three non-conference games in the books, and turns its attention towards Wednesday's NE10 opener against New Haven. That match is at home and gets underway at 3:30 pm.
