Waltham, Mass. – Two goals in the final 10 minutes by sophomore Rebecca Nguyen (Dudley, Mass./Shepherd Hill) and junior Marissa Burns (Hudson, N.H./Bishop Guertin) saw the Bentley women's soccer team defeat Dominican (N.Y.) 2-0 in the team's season opener on Friday at the Molloy Kickoff Classic.
Nguyen scored the in the 82nd minute to break a scoreless deadlock and give the Falcons the lead, and Burns finished the match off with a goal in the 88th minute to seal the 2-0 victory.
Nguyen's goal came after a cross into the box by freshman Lilliana Silva (Grafton, Mass./Grafton). Just under six minutes later Burns finished off a move around the Dominican defense with a shot from the top of the penalty area for the goal.
Nguyen, along with Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington), led the team with three shots each, as Bentley outshot their opponents 15-3 on the day.
Junior goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) made three saves to earn the win.
Bentley will conclude the Kickoff Classic on Sunday when they take on the hosts Molloy at 2:00 pm.
