Assumption Snaps Bentley’s Unbeaten Start, 2-1

Worcester, Mass. – Assumption snapped Bentley's unbeaten start to the season at four games, as the Greyhounds hung on for a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds seized an early in the 3rd minute on a goal from midfielder Ania Spina with a shot in front of the net to the top corner.

Bentley battled for the next hour plus for the equalizer, and they found it from junior Stephanie Helin in the 66th minute, who scorer her team leading 3rd goal of the season. Helin got the play started with a run down the middle of the field and a deflected shot that found its way to Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) on the wing. Guccione fed a pass to Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) for a shot that was saved by Assumption goalie Alexis Nason, but Helin pounced on the rebound for the tying goal.

But less than a minute later, Assumption got the eventual game-winning goal from midfielder Alexis Stowell with a long shot from 30 yards out to give them a 2-1 lead.

That proved to be the winner for the hosts, as Bentley's record dropped to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in NE10 matches.

The Falcons will back on the field on Tuesday when they host Adelphi for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
