North Andover, Mass. – Bentley had three different players find the back of the net in its season opening 3-1 victory over Dominican at the Merrimack Kickoff Classic on Thursday.
Senior Alyssa Valente (New Canann, Conn./New Canaan), returning after missing all last season with an injury, got the scoring started in just the 8th minute in her first game back. Sophomore Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and freshman Emily McGrath (Brewster, Mass./Nauset) were also on target as the Falcons won their season opener for the fourth time in five seasons.
Valente's goal, off a run down the right side to put Bentley in front early, was quickly answered back by Dominican with a goal from Taylor Calero in the 12th minute.
But Guccione put the Falcons back in front in the 29th minute with a shot from 18 yards away that beat the Dominican keeper up top.
Bentley then added to its lead in the 71st minute with a goal by rookie McGrath, with sophomore Erica Campbell (Old Bethpage N.Y./Plainview) on the assist.
The Falcons dominated possession and shots, to the tune of a 21-2 edge in shots on goal and 14-0 in corner kicks.
Bentley will play the second game of the Kickoff Classic on Saturday when they take on Molloy.
