Strong Effort by Bentley, but Saint Rose Wins In 2OT 3-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – A goal in the 104th minute by Saint Rose's Karmyn Carter to give the Golden Knights a 3-2 double overtime victory negated a strong effort by Bentley against one of the Northeast-10's traditional powers.

The Falcons overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit with two goals in the 2nd half, with junior Carly Kohler's (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) goal in the 84th minute sending the game to overtime.

Bentley finished the day with a 16-12 advantage in shots overall and 8-5 in shots on goal.

Bentley cut the deficit to 2-1 just under four minutes after halftime, as sophomore Kelly Donlon (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney) and senior Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) combined on the goal. Kent made a run down the right wing and played a dangerous ball into the six yard box. Donlon beat Saint Rose keeper Marika Laurendeau to the ball, and turned to get a shot off into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Bentley continued to push for the tying goal throughout the half, and its pressure was rewarded with Kohler firing home a goal to tie the match 2-2. Donlon was involved again, as she chased down a ball in the penalty area before it went out of play. She then fed a pass to Kohler, whose shot was on target to the near post from 12 yards away.

The Falcons had two shots in the first overtime, but Saint Rose converted its first chance in the second overtime. A corner kick taken by midfielder Victoria Barris was headed in by Carter from close range to give the Golden Knights the victory.

Bentley will look to bounce back from the tough loss on Wednesday when they are back at home to host Southern New Hampshire for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
