No. 16 Adelphi Shoots Past Bentley, 3-1

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – No. 16 ranked Adelphi continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 home win over visiting Bentley in Northeast-10 women's soccer on Monday afternoon. Freshman Megan Doubleday (Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) had a 2nd half goal for the Falcons.

The Panthers, now 5-0 on the season overall and 4-0 NE10, raced out to a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes and led 3-0 at halftime over the Falcons, who were playing on just one day of rest after Saturday's game against Assumption.

Senior forward Taylor Sipos gave Adelphi a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute with her 3rd goal of the season, after she got on the receiving end of a cross from senior Jeanine Nunez.

Nunez then score herself in the 32nd minute after she forced a turnover in Bentley's defensive zone and converted the scoring chance for her 6th goal of the year.

It wasn't all Adelphi though in the first half, as the Falcons got off eight shots, two of which were saved by AU keeper Isabel Sandstrom.

Shots were even in the 2nd half 5-5, and Bentley had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Doubleday scored her first college goal in the 90th minute, her second straight game with a point after she had an assist in Saturday's game. Fellow freshman Lindsey Connolly (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) had the assist for her team leading 7th point of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) made her Bentley debut by playing the entire 2nd half.

After playing three games in six days, the Falcons are now off until Wednesday, the 27th when they visit Saint Anselm.
