Villemaire Scores Twice in Assumption’s 2-1 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Northeast-10's leading goal scorer Kallie Villemaire scored two goals to lead Assumption to a 2-1 victory over the Bentley women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon. Senior Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) had the goal for the Falcons.

Assumption got off to a fast start with Villemaire's 8th goal of the season in the 7th minute putting them in front 1-0. Senior Amanda Arnold played Villemaire in with a through ball into the penalty box, and Villemaire finished with a low shot to the far post from 12 yards.

Assumption largely held the Falcons in check for most of the first half, until Kent and freshman Megan Doubleday (Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) combined on a goal to level the score at one in the 41st minute. Bentley had possession just outside of the Assumption penalty area, and Doubleday flicked on a pass to Kent in the left corner of the box. Kent then chipped a shot to the far post from about 15 yards away for the goal.

For most of the 2nd half neither team created any clear cut scoring chances, until Villemaire's 2nd goal of the game and 9th of the season in the 70th minute put the Greyhounds up 2-1. Victoria Stowell got the play started with a through ball in midfield that played Villemaire in front of the Bentley defense. She then finished from about 12 yards out.

Bentley very nearly got the equalizer from junior Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) in the 77th minute. She dribbled around a defender to get free in the left corner, and unleashed a shot that looked headed for the upper corner of the net, only to have it bang off the crossbar.

That was the last significant scoring chance for either team, as Assumption held on for the 2-1 victory.

Bentley's record dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-2 NE10. They're back on the pitch on Monday at Adelphi for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
